Battery Replacement Instructions

Photon Lights

Photon Micro-Light I

Photon Micro-Light I Battery Replacement:Photon Micro-Light I battery replacement

Depending on the beam color, your Photon 1 will use either a pair of lithium CR-2016 batteries (white, blue, & UV) or a single CR-2032 lithium battery (red, yellow, & IR). Replacement with CR-2016 batteries pictured at right.

  1. Carefully remove the cap on the logo side of the Photon Micro-Light using a pointed tool such as
a ball point pen or the tip of a nail file.
  2. Replace battery(s) with the plus (+) side up as shown in the illustration.
  3. Close by aligning tab of battery cover and snapping shut.

*For best performance we recommend Energizer brand replacement batteries.

Operational Tips:

  • If the light flickers, gently wipe battery contacts with a soft tissue being careful not to distort their shape. For minor cases, sometimes the mechanical action of simply pressing and releasing the squeeze button several times is enough to eliminate a flicker.
  • In the unlikely event of water penetrating the case, simply open and dry out.
Photon Micro-Light II

Depending on the beam color, your Photon II will use either a pair of lithium CR-2016 batteries (white, green, NV green/turquoise, blue, & purple) or a single CR-2032 lithium battery (red, orange, yellow, & infrared). Replacement with CR-2016 batteries pictured to right.

A detailed PDF file showing step-by-step Photon II battery replacement is available here.

  1. Remove four screws from bottom of the Photon and flip case over so switch is on top. Note: Press firmly with screwdriver to avoid damage to screw or driver tip.
  2. Carefully separate top and bottom case.
  3. Remove clear slide switch.
  4. Hold bulb down with one finger and lift lead (wire) just enough to remove batteries.
Important! Do NOT change bulb leads except for raising enough to replace batteries.
  5. Install new battery(s).
  6. Replace slide switch on slightly raised lead.
  7. Position top case so slide switch extends through hole and close case.
  8. Flip over and replace screws.

*Note: It is common for the Photon II to turn on during reassembly.  If your Photon II remains turned on after reassembly, simply squeeze the button and it should turn off.

*For best performance we recommend Energizer brand replacement batteries.

Operational Tips:

  • The switch will slide much easier when NOT squeezing at the same time.
  • If the light flickers, gently wipe leads with a soft tissue being careful not to distort their shape. For minor cases, sometimes the mechanical action of simply pressing and releasing the squeeze button several times is enough to eliminate a flicker.
  • For a snappier switch: disassemble the light and carefully raise the lead (wire) 25-30 degrees and reassemble (see instructions below).
Photon Freedom Micro

Photon Freedom Micro Battery Replacement:Photon Freedom Micro battery replacement

Depending on the beam color, your Freedom Micro will use either a pair of CR-2016 lithium batteries (white, green, turquoise/NV green, blue, purple, & UV) or a single CR-2032 lithium battery (red, orange, yellow, & IR). Replacement with CR-2016 batteries pictured to right.

  1. Locate the small notch on the logo side near the keyring end of your Freedom Micro LED flashlight. Remove the battery cap by carefully insert a small pointed object in this notch between the body of the light and the battery cap.
  2. Install new battery(s) with the + side towards the cap. Be sure the top battery is under the metal strap.
  3. Replace battery cap by first lining up tab on cap with notch in body of case.

*For best performance we recommend Energizer brand replacement batteries.

Operational Tips:

  • The Signal/Morse Code mode can be used as a convenient "travel mode" to protect against accidental power drain.
  • In the unlikely event of water penetrating the case, simply open the case and allow to dry.
X-Light Micro

Use two CR-2016 lithium batteries

  1. Separate the X-Light case halves by unsnapping them at the base by the keyring  (note small notch  in keyring hole).
  2. Remove old batteries and replace with recommended Energizer  batteries with the + visible.
  3. Realign  case halves and snap shut.

Photon Fusion

Photon Fusion Battery Replacement:Photon Fusion battery replacement

To install batteries, open battery box and insert 3 AA batteries as shown. The Fusion requires the correct polarity so be sure to insert the batteries according to "+" and "-" on inside like of battery box.

Note: We suggest using the edge of a coin to release the closure tab when opening the battery case. The battery case is designed with a tight close in order to maintain optimum continuity with the batteries. If you hold the cover down firmly as you open the lid, this action takes the pressure off the latch, allowing it to open easier.

*For best performance we recommend Energizer brand replacement batteries.

Operational Tips:

  • If your light will not turn on, check that the batteries are inserted properly. See polarity indicated in battery replacement section below.
Proton Pro

Proton Pro Battery Replacement:

To replace batteries, unscrew tailcap counterclockwise, and insert a single AA battery + end first. The Proton Pro may use any AA battery with a voltage of 1.2-1.5V. The Proton Pro is compatible with any battery chemistry including Lithium, NiMH, Alkaline, NiCad or Carbon, however Lithium AA & NiMH rechargeable AA batteries will provide the best performance.

*For best performance we recommend Energizer brand replacement batteries.

Operational Tips:

  • The Proton Pro is designed to indicate when your bateries are low by turning on both the red LED at the same time the white is on.
IMPORTANT: When using NiMH rechargeable batteries, recharge them when indicated for them to continue to be able to accept a full charge.

Wenger Swiss Army Knives

Esquire Micro-Light Knife

Esquire Micro-Light Knife Battery Replacement:Photon Micro-Light I battery replacement

The Esquire Micro-Light knife has a drawer section containing two 3V button batteries (Lithium CR1220). To replace them, first open the blade - and nail file if there is one - then use the hooked top of the tweezers to gently pull out the drawer. The batteries will fit into the drawer with one battery + side up, and the other with + side down (They will only fit one way, so it is difficult to get the polarity wrong).

*For best performance we recommend Energizer brand replacement batteries.

Operational Tips:

  • If the light flickers or is difficult to turn on, gently wipe batteries with a soft tissue. You may also try rotating the batteries slightly in the drawer, so that the battery contacts connect with a different spot on the battery. Occasionally, the pressure of squeezing the button may lead to a slight denting of the battery that sits directly underneath the button. If this occurs, rotating the battery slightly, or swapping places with the second battery, should restore normal operation.
